NCLEX Exam
On Tuesday the 14th at 8am I will take the Arkansas State Nursing Board Exam in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Approximately half of my class has taken it thus far, and everyone I have heard about has passed it. That should inspire confidence, but mine is a little shaky. Typically I am a good test taker--but I suspect my heart will be anxious that day and anything could happen. That being said, I will negate the fear with faith that God would not bring me to this point and allow me to mess it up. : )
It is ironic that after two semesters of prerequisites followed by four intense semesters of nursing school--it comes down to a 75 question exam on a computer that determines whether or not I am a licensed registered nurse.
I have worked five days on the postpartum floor at Mercy Medical Center. It is going well. I've asked some silly questions and made a few minor errors, but overall the patients remain healthy, and I trust they have felt well cared for. My job is similar to what I did as an intern, but it has more responsibility with the administration of medications and ongoing physical and emotional assessments. It is much less physical. We are consistently busy in the morning, but often have time to sit and chat for a few minutes here and there in the afternoon. As an intern, I 'ran' for the 12 hour shifts trying to accomplish all my duties and was frequently behind schedule.
I'm thrilled to have the privilege of touching so many lives and working for a faith based hospital. I love sharing in the magical first 24-48 hours with the families as they marvel over their newborn. Much of nursing is teaching. The first time mother's are so eager to learn and full of questions with love and wonder on their faces when looking at, feeding and caring for their little ones. I'm learning right along with them and having a blast.

Hey Sheila! Your blog is amazing! I am a nursing student at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I am leading a team to Ghana this summer on missions, and I am looking for a Nurse Extern job for the summer. I was wondering if you know if Mercy Hospital in Rogers, AR, has an internship then? My cousin lives there. My e-mail address is
