Kenyans at U of A

A Kenyan Graduation Party

Last night I attended a graduation party for Anthony, a student I met at ISCA from Kenya who has finished his second Masters' program in two years. The party was thrown by a professor who is also from Kenya and attended by primarily Kenyans. It was such an honor to be able to be welcomed by them and see into their culture in the intimate setting of the home. We ate their national foods which were wonderful--even the fresh roasted goat meat which I learned is always present at celebratory functions. My favorite was a flat bread that was made of corn and wheat and lightly sweetened called chapati.

There were games and dancing, laughter and photos. I joined in on the games, laughter, food and photos--but not the dancing. : ) Here is Anthony and his friend Dr. Francis Geirra who has completed his doctorate studies in Anthropology.
