Two down...

Two weeks down, something like 63 to go. Jill and I passed our first validations! Yay! She is an amazing desk partner; I am so grateful that God blessed us with places next to each other in the program.
Each time I post about school I'll share with you a bit of info we learned which I thought was fascinating or disgusting or both.

A pyrogen is a bacteria or virus that causes pyrexia (fever). The invaders are combated by our body's nature immune response UNTIL we take an antipyretic (fever reducing drug). The fever is the body's natural--and helpful--response as it fights off the pyrogens who have taken up residence.
Therefore, my tip--which really I am not yet qualified to give is--do not automatically take an antipyretic (Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Aspirin) as soon as you have a fever. Let your body at least begin on its own to fight off the pyrogens with a complex process that results in an increase in the set point of your hypothalamus.
Our bodies are amazing and will often heal themselves if we give them the proper nutrients and rest. If your fever gets above 101 degrees or so, go ahead and take an antipyretic. Children's fevers tend to be more extreme, with rapid onset, so do not wait too long to medicate your little ones. Disclaimer- I am neither a doctor nor a nurse. : )

It is sometimes as dangerous to be run into by a microbe as by a trolley car. ~J.J. Walsh
